Ghanaian rapper, song writer and and singer Kwame Ametepe Tsikata known in the music industry as M.anifest yesterday 30th May, 2019 delivered the keynote address at the 20th Ephraim Amu Memorial Lecture organised by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences under the theme "Re-Imagining Us: The Role of Popular Music in Self-actualization".
This year's event was held at the GAAS auditorium to honour the educationist, reformist and creative musician, Dr Ephraim Amu for his contribution to cultural nationalism in Ghana. In his speech he reiterated the immense contribution of contemporary music and how it can be directed to make greater impact.
The Ephraim Amu Memorial Lecture series is organized by the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences to honour the contributions and achievements of Ephraim Amu, who devoted his entire life to cultural nationalism. An educationist, reformist and creative musician, composer par
excellence, father of Ghanaian art music, African
musicologist, poet, music educator, a transformer and
maker of Akan flutes, and a cultural patriot and
idealized him as ‘the African’
Dr Ephraim Amu left a mark on Ghana’s cultural memory. Dr. Ephraim Amu is known for his famous song MeyÉ› Asanteni.
